Sliding door rollers

This product was developed at the request of a customer who was struggling with roller abnormalities (cracks and particles in the plastic outer wheels) sometimes within a year of installation after applying other companies’ inferior products.

– Development History

Before becoming acquainted with ORBIS, our client’s company, which makes hardware for sliding doors, suffered tremendous damage due to roller defects and damage. There was no problem when installing it, but after a year, many rollers were damaged and they were difficult to handle, even though they had separate personnel specializing in A/S.

Our client was referred to ORBIS and commissioned us to develop a roller to fix their problem. Their problem was a roller (usually called an insert roller) of injected plastic on a steel bearing, and most of these rollers were purchased and used in China. The client company also had a lot of quality and damage problems while using Chinese products, so it was requested that a domestic injection company develop it and replace it, but the problem continued when using domestic products.

Ultimately, the problem was that even domestic companies had a low understanding of drive products such as rollers and bearings. The roller with a U-groove only receives vertical force, so the bearing itself is less burdensome, but the inside of the intaglio groove is a driving part that moves on the rail, so it’s the most important part.

In the case of a built-in wardrobe door roller, the structure is subjected to a moment load, which can cause severe torsional external force on the bearing, resulting in damage or plastic detachment in severe cases. In this case, from the roller design stage, it was necessary to select a large diameter and thin bearing to allow the plastic part to withstand torsional loads.

In addition, two types of roller-based hardware are often installed during apartment construction, sometimes at dry, low temperatures in winter, and sometimes at humid, high temperatures in summer. Therefore, it is necessary to select materials, set injection conditions, and maintain cleanliness before injection to prevent damage to the weld line. Without this consideration, you can see that there are many broken rollers when you move in after apartment construction. In the end, it was often necessary to reinstall it.

ORBIS reviewed these conditions, environments, etc., selected the appropriate product line, designed it, tested it under conditions similar to the actual environment, and developed it to provide rollers that are safe for actual use.

Even now, five years after replacing their parts with our product, there has not been any after service required for ORBIS’ roller product due to roller failure.

– Product Features

This is a three-point contact, full ball type bearing for robustness and durability. It also shows a smooth and perfect emotional quality.
The hardware applied with this product is capable of soft closing and bidirectional damping of a small sliding door, with a maximum door load of 50kg, and is a KCL-certified product that has been tested for 100,000 opening and closing cycles.

– Quality Assurance (rollers)

Note) At the time of development, Korea Institute of Construction Life Environment Test (for 60KG) showed excellent performance in all fields of durability (590N, 100,000 times), strength test (990N), wear resistance (PK-1,2), and almost no deformation or wear after 600,000 unofficial durability tests.
